Welcome to the home of Packraft Canada and the Annual Canadian Packrafting Roundup! We are thrilled to have an annual packrafting event dedicated bringing the community together in Canada to share our passion for the sport, to share paddling skills and river safety knowledge and to help protect our rivers. Watersports are a big part of the collective Canadian psyche. We are a nation of water riches with over 31,000 freshwater lakes and rivers covering almost 8% of the country. We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate our love of water and the tiny portable watercraft that allows us to go just about anywhere!
Our website also offers the country’s largest collection of packrafter-created trip reports and trip videos from all over Canada. This is a great resource and inspiration for your future packrafting adventures.
Our first two Packraft Canada roundups were held at Mt. Robson Provincial Park in British Columbia in 2018 and 2019. When the country went into lockdown in the spring of 2020, all planning was put on hold. With continued lockdowns and restrictions on public gatherings, we had to cancel plans for summer 2021 in Squamish, BC. In 2022, we finally held the Roundup in Squamish, BC. In 2023, the Roundup went East to Cape Breton in Nova Scotia. This year, we’ll be celebrating our 5th year, with an event in Alberta.
In the coming years, we plan to organize meetups in other Canadian provinces. We welcome your suggestions on locations for future paddling roundups. Access to a variety of calm and whitewater river sections within relatively close proximity, a camping and/or cabin venue, some sort of pavilion or group shelter/facility where we can all meet as a group, access to grocery supplies–all these will help make it a great location, not to mention the fantastic scenery that many of Canada’s whitewater rivers offer.
What can you expect if you participate in one of the events? There will be paddling activities for new and experienced packrafters. There may be skills clinics, presentations, information on area rivers. We may be able to offer a separate pre-roundup swiftwater rescue course. There will be informal opportunities for post-roundup trips with fellow packrafters. We’ll have a gear swap and an auction. If you are interested in participating in our planning efforts, and if you have ideas for great roundup/meetup locations, please pop us an email (packraftcanada@gmail.com).
We love new volunteers! Keep an eye on the Packraft Canada Facebook group and this website for updated information as we plan new events.
